Introduction: Hypoxaemia is a common condition in patients during the first 48 hours after non-cardiac surgery. In previous studies, it was shown that 37% of patients (> 45 years old) had prolonged hypoxaemic episodes postoperatively. At the same time, nurses failed to detect these hypoxaemic episodes in over 90% resulting in an undersupply of oxygen to patients. However, it must also be noted that not only hypoxaemia itself, but also the hyperoxaemia or oxygen-induced hypercapnia, which can be caused by continuous oxygen administration, may carry risks.
